How to Make Money Online & Travel the World

If you’ve ever dreamed of making money online so you can travel the world, I’m here to tell you it’s possible! I’ve been doing it myself, working from anywhere while exploring different countries, and I want to share some of the best remote job opportunities that allow you to earn a steady income while enjoying the freedom of travel. Plus, I’ll include my referral links so you can get started easily, and I’m happy to help with the hiring process if you need it!

1. Lead Generator/Appointment Setter

This is a job I didn’t even know existed until I got it! Basically, I work as a messenger, replying to people on Instagram and following a script to get them to book a call. These jobs are often for influencers or business owners selling coaching programs. My job is to qualify leads and get them to book a call with a fitness coach, who then sells his program (which is actually life-changing for his clients). I can literally do this job from my phone from anywhere. I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve worked just sitting there messaging on my phone while on the bus or waiting at the airport, waiting for my food order, etc!

  • How much do I make? $18/hr base pay + $200–$300/month in commissions
  • Why is it great? Full autonomy—I work whenever I want, track my own hours, and have no stress.
  • How to find this job? Search for “Lead Generator,” “Appointment Setter,” or similar roles on job boards and social media.

2. Online Tutoring with Varsity Tutors

Another fantastic way to make money online is tutoring! I recently started with Varsity Tutors, and it’s been great so far. The hiring process is super easy—no live interview, just an online application and a recorded demo lesson. The pay recently increased from $15 to $18/hr base pay, and with bonuses, you can make up to $40/hr over time.

  • How much do I make? $18/hr starting pay + bonuses
  • Why is it great? Flexible schedule—you accept or decline students as you like.
  • Downside? You need to prepare your own lessons.

3. Tutoring on Tutor.com

I’ve been tutoring with Tutor.com for over two years now, and it’s another great option. Pay varies by subject ($12–$25/hr), but the best part is that if you sign up for “on-demand” hours and no one requests a tutor, you still get paid! Plus, there’s no video—just audio or text-based tutoring with a shared whiteboard.

  • How much do I make? $15–$25/hr depending on the subject.
  • Why is it great? Easy, stress-free gig with the chance to move up to Master Tutor or even a Quality Specialist reviewing other tutors.
  • Downside? Pay rates depend on the subject you teach.

4. Teaching English Online

If you’re a native or fluent English speaker, teaching English online can be a great way to earn money while traveling. Some platforms include:

VIPKid

I haven’t taught with VIPKid since April 2024, but they still pay $7 per 25-minute lesson, with incentives that can bring earnings up to $18/hr. They prepare all lessons for you, so you just need to review them and teach.

Preply

I also teach on Preply, where you set your own rates. I charge $20 per 50-minute lesson, but Preply takes a commission, so I actually earn around $15 per lesson. As you teach more lessons, the commission decreases, allowing you to keep more of your earnings.

  • Why is it great? Set your own rates and schedule.
  • Downside? High commission fees when starting.

Why These Jobs Are Perfect for Digital Nomads

It might not seem like a huge paycheck at first, but when you’re living in budget-friendly countries like Colombia, Turkey, Portugal, Mexico, or North Macedonia, your dollars stretch much further. I personally save at least 50% of my income each month while traveling, which wouldn’t be possible if I had a high cost of living in the U.S.

If you love the freedom to set your own schedule, work stress-free, and travel the world, these jobs could be a perfect fit for you!
